Our History

Proudly in business for over 60 years, Metalex Products Ltd. was founded by an ambitious refugee, Carl Alston, who recognized the need for someone to recycle the old car batteries in Western Canada.  Since it’s founding, the company continues to follow a path of innovation to accommodate the needs of its customers and the community.

1962

Metalex Products Ltd. is created.

Carl Aslton starts Metalex from the ground up, re-using scrap materials whenever possible.  Core principles to reduce, re-use and recycle; a model long before environmental consciousness became widespread.

1968

Installation of Battery

Recycling Plant

Carl experiments with different processes until finally settling using a hammermill and shaking table to process batteries.

1970

New Ownership

After building Metalex into a large and successful business, Carl sold the company to Samson Ocean Systems.

1980

Davis Trading & Supply Co. acquires Metalex

Purchase of Metalex Products Ltd. by Davis Trading. Under the leadership of Metalex president Melvin J. Davis, and Bill Holdyk and Rob Kamphuis, the company continued to focus on innovation and growth within Canada’s green economy.

2022

Transition to New Stewards

Metalex Products Ltd. transitions to a new generation of leadership, guiding the company through its next major growth steps within the Canadian Circular Economy.
